  1. This is Incredible! I can not wait for you to publish more details so that I can build one for myself... I may have to stop upgrading my repstrap because its quality of parts will never be this high...

Congratulations on this huge success of yours,

  4. I am testing many different types and combinations... the resin is very critical in this process and I don't feel I am ready with this yet....
Hope bring some news on this area soon..

  6. ...and do you use an UV oven to harden the material?

  7. Jr, when are you going to start the kickstarter project for your machine?? I'm itching to get started on the build process for this machine!!!!

  8. quite seriously, this would be the first kickstarter project I'd contribute to... I'm very interested in running it alongside my reprap to do models in each one best suited to the technology and put them together.

  9. wow this is another amazing print! Have you set any time line for you release yet? I'm just wondering when you are publishing your amazing project, then I can fund some money to it!!!

  12. Did anyone tell you about the shout out you got on the Luxology "modcast"? http://www.luxology.com/community/blog/entry.aspx?id=269

Can't wait to do this my self and fund your kickstarter project. I'm sure you're aware that this is the best DIY (Open Source) 3D Printer at the moment.

Will the current configuration allow for size expansion? Obviously part would have to be replaced here and there, but it would be awesome to double the platform down the road.

  13. Hi, Your project is amazing and the quality of the print-outs are far superior than the other diy 3d printer.

    I have a few questions.

    1. will your system be compatible with the low cost 3d scanning system such as http://www.david-laserscanner.com/ ?

    2. When will you be putting up your project on kickstarter? I think alot of your follower are very eager to support your project because its really an amazing project for the DIY community.

  14. I'm pretty sure all the hobbyists out there really want to know what resin you used to get the results you've gotten so far, regardless of whether or not you've perfected it. We all want in on this too :D

  15. Eddie....its a projection based system so logic would infer a simple scalability with the understanding of a loss of resolution, and speed. Speed of Build would be injured by the lower intensity as the light concentration is reduced causing a delay in the "cure time per layer"

aak...Once you have a clean, aligned, watertight scan....This sort of printer should work with any stl....irregardless of source.

  16. This is brilliant!

My one concern is the chemical. Having read the hazards it looks like washing the finished model will require great care mainly because of the risk it poses to wildlife etc. I wonder how the rinse water should be disposed of?

  17. Hi Junior:

Spectacular!!! You are doing a very very good job, and a hard job too!!! ;)
I am a traditional and 3d sculptor. You can see some of my sculpts on, and some pics of 3d prints, on:

  19. Mknorr some UV resins are non toxic. UV Windshield repair resins like this one are nontoxic. http://www.windshieldrepairresin.org/

You can't use it as is. It needs to be pigmented. "Sudan I" is usully used. Laboratory tests with Sudan I used on rats showed growth of cancerous tumours in the liver and bladder.

I'm sure some other form of pigment powder can be used that is much safer.

  20. I'll be very curious for the kickstarter project to start. I plan on donating (and making one.) A few fellow engineers and I are curious as to the resin used and whether you could use them to do a lost wax type casting which would be an amazing advancement. Complex parts printed and then cast in metal.

  22. Apparently, the answer to my questions was answered in a previous post in the comments. You can use the resin for lost wax type casting... Please please please share the info with us Junior. I can't wait to drop some money on the kickstarter.

  25. how many microns would you say the resolution on this print is? it looks finer than the 50 micron print of the woman's head.

  26. Junior please get in touch for commercial opportunities

  27. Astonishing result!!! I'd say it's finer than 50 microns!!!! Looking forward for your next print.

  28. awesome, really. Where can I find some tutorial for build my 3d printer?

  29. Hi brcjackson, yedharo and everyone who wants to get in touch,

Please send me your e-mail on the comment or using Twitter.

    Best regards,

    Junior

  30. Hi info and CNCman,

I am using 50 microns, the resolution looks better because the quality (resolution) of the STL file (3d Object).

For higher quality you need more triangles in the STL, which means more resolution...

    Regards,

    Junior

  32. Hi Junior, but there is not site where can find tutorial for build a CNC like this and a site where can I buy the material?

  35. Hi Giovanni,

This is a 3d printer, bit different from a CNC. Soon I will share a link for a crowd-sourcing where you will be able to get the plans as reward.

    Best regards,

    Junior

  36. Thanks for your answer Junior and thanks for share your work. I'm a sculptor, digital (zbrush/softimage/modo modeller) and traditional (with "traditional" I mean a clay/supersculpey sculptor), I don't know if you need and if I can doing some little work for you (I would like be able thank you for your availability).
    All the best

  37. Hi Junior

If you dont already have name for it, how about Feeniks 3D Print?

I was just wondering about tecnical specs for printed object. How strong it is? How much are printing costs per cubic centimeter? Can printed object painted?

Just curious to know ´cos I´m industrial designer.

  38. hi Veloso,

how much it would be cost?

  39. Junior, please put me on this list.

I am a sculptor. Both digital and practical. My desire is simple. I want the ability to make real world copies of my digital creations at will, without being victimized by the crazy overhead costs most 3DRP places charge.

I have 3 friends who can help.

One is a programmer. He programs 2 way radio systems. My other friend is a self made businessman who sells protective packing foam parts. He shapes them from raw stock into the patterns/shapes the customer requests. He built a 3 axis hot-wire foam cutter from scratch, built his own control boards, and wrote all the motor control code himself. I also have a family friend who works for and eyecare center. He is willing to help me figure out a lens coating system that might help to prevent the resin from sticking to the build plate.

  40. What a great project, I'd like to get involved - email me at rab@cnc-toolkit.com
I see you use 3DS MAX for the modeling - I developed an open-source 5-axis CNC extension for 3DS MAX, see http://www.cnc-toolkit.com

  41. Junior,
How did you convert those Alien skull from jpg to STL format?

    ReplyDelete
  42. You mentioned that the suction effect is a problem with the process and that it limits the sizes that can be made. Is this true for just certain shapes, or all? I want to use this to print long, thin-walled, cylindrical objects with perforations in them which would allow air to equalize as the mold moves upwards. Is Is it that the objects will just fall if they are too heavy? I will be cash in hand, ready to buy this (maybe 5) the day you release it!

  43. Great, great, great work! I want your 3d printer now! When will the printer on the market?

    I will buy one! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my gosh! That's amazing, Junior! Where did you get the 3D laser scanner for the project? A land surveying equipment store? I would love something like this. The detail around the eyes is awesome. Way to go!

About the Project

I have been dreaming about having a 3D Printer at home for many years, but the ones with good quality are not affordable and the low costs just deliver poor quality. Sounds crazy but I decided to build a high resolution 3D Printer by myself at home (people actually said that I was crazy and this was impossible). The funny thing I never saw this type of machines in real life, and still haven’t seen one besides the one I built.

Now that I succeed building the first prototype, the target is to bring this low cost 3D Printer to every home, so we are developing the first affordable one with high resolution.

I hope you enjoy our blog, follow us and you can have this printer in your home soon.
